Diamond Aircraft / IKONNew Diamond Aviation World with Pilot Shop & Lounge and New Flight School at the Egelsbach Airport Under the designation “Diamond Aviation World“(DAW), a pilot shop and lounge as well as a new flight training academy opened their doors in the newly designed Diamond Terminal at the Egelsbach Airport on September 18, 2009. DAW is operated by Diamond Aircraft Industries and its subsidiaries Diamond Simulation and Diamond Air Service, the aviation training center IKON, and other partners.
Germany’s busiest general aviation airport has got two more attractions. The Diamond Terminal with its large store windows and its prime location is to serve not only pilots but all those who are interested in aviation. As Michael Feinig, Managing Director of Diamond Aircraft Industries, pointed out in his inauguration speech: “With our lounge and pilot shop, we want to create a gathering place for pilots and, hopefully, future pilots. This year, Diamond Aircraft celebrates its twentieth birthday. After the founding years characterised by the development of a, by now, impressive product range, we want to forge a closer relationship with our customers. These efforts are to be accompanied by the establishment of new sales channels and by new concepts like ‘Diamond Aviation World’. Here pilots will find, among other things, the service they deserve before or after a flight. Having said this, I hope the Diamond Terminal will also contribute to a promising future of the airport here at Egelsbach”.
Under the new name ‘Diamond Aviation World’, numerous products and a host of information related to general aviation will be offered, ranging from historical documents about the early beginnings of aviation to state-of-the-art GPS technology, thus covering the whole range of aviation navigation represented by the global market leaders in this field, Jeppesen and Garmin, as well as by the DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung. The new Diamond Brilliance Flight Center, operated by IKON, a nationally renowned aviation academy, covers the whole spectrum of pilot training from PPL to ATPL. Dr. Günther Kotzor, head of IKON: “We look forward to expand the training possibilities for student pilots at this important airport. Besides, we will offer type and class ratings for which we see an increase in demand. In the course of the training, most sophisticated Flight Simulation Training Devices from Diamond Simulation will be used.”
Organisations like AOPA Germany, the Mayday Foundation, and the Supporting Association of the August Euler Museum Griesheim are also represented under the DAW roof, just as the Diamond partners WeFly, Garmin, Sennheiser, and Pilatus. For years, the German Aviation Press Club representing 450 members has been operating its federal office in the Diamond Terminal.
