New Jeppesen VFR+GPS charts for Europe

Increased readability

Jeppesen has announced the introduction of an optimized 1:500,000 scale VFR+GPS enroute chart series for Europe that was designed based on input from VFR pilots. Pilot-preferred features of the new chart include increased readability through improved depiction of terrain and enhanced symbols. An increase to each chart’s coverage area reduces the number of charts necessary for flight. The improved VFR+GPS chart also introduces a new folding system to ease handling in the cockpit. The new European chart series is available now.

Jeppesen officials held meetings with European pilots in Frankfurt, London and Paris to better understand their specific needs and determine preferred charting features. Valuable input provided by pilots during these meetings helped shape the improved Jeppesen VFR+GPS chart series, designed by European pilots for European pilots.

“The new Jeppesen VFR+GPS chart is designed to meet the needs and expectations of VFR pilots, many of which provided us with their ideas and design preferences,” said Andreas
Windeck, product manager, Jeppesen Airway Manual. “We have created an improved VFR charting experience that pilots will be able to easily integrate into the flight planning and inflight
cockpit information management process to improve performance.”

The improved VFR+GPS chart depicts airspaces in a more easily readable manner, and provides recognition of overlapping airspace boundaries. Enhanced airport symbols are easy to locate and identify and a new depiction of terrain provides a dynamic three-dimensional impression.

More details on the improved VFR+GPS chart series - as well as the 2010 revision schedule - are available here . Jeppesen provides VFR+GPS chart services for flight in Europe, the U.S. and South Africa.
