Q: What exactly is Dynon announcing?
A: We are announcing a new, built-in IFR GPS navigation capability currently in development for the SkyView HDX system. Once released, this system will integrate your navigation, flight planning, and approach guidance into the SkyView HDX system you already trust, eliminating the need for extra avionics hardware that occupies valuable panel space.
Q: What hardware and data is required to make this work?
A: To enable IFR navigation, customers will simply add a new remote-mounted module and antenna. This hardware integrates into the SkyView HDX system using the same modular architecture as other SkyView components. Once installed with the latest no-cost SkyView software update, the capability will be unlocked. Customers will also need a current IFR aviation database - available for purchase/subscription, and optionally plates and charts (already available) if so desired.
Q: Does this require a brand-new SkyView display?
A: No! This IFR GPS capability will be available on all SkyView HDX displays, when equipped with a new hardware module. (Note: Legacy SkyView Classic and Touch systems are not compatible. However Dynon offers competitive display upgrade programs for those pilots).
Q: How much space does this take up on my instrument panel?
A: None. Because the module mounts completely behind the panel and the software integrates directly into your existing SkyView HDX screen, you do not need to cut any new holes or give up any radio stack real estate.

Q: What types of approaches and arrivals can this new navigator fly?
A: All RNAV approaches. SIDs, STARs, you name it. The system will support full LPV (Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance), sometimes called “WAAS” approaches, giving you vertical and lateral guidance down to IFR minimums. It brings the advanced capabilities pilots expect from a dedicated IFR GPS directly into SkyView.
Q: Will it couple to my Dynon Autopilot?
A: Yes, absolutely. The internal IFR navigator will fully integrate with the Dynon autopilot system to fly hands-off LPV approaches seamlessly all the way down to the runway environment.
Q: I thought you could already fly IFR with SkyView HDX. How does this change things?
A: While SkyView HDX is already a robust primary flight instrument suite for IFR operations, pilots currently require a separate, external navigator to handle certified IFR navigation. This upcoming new capability will change that by integrating full, certified IFR navigation directly into the SkyView HDX system. By adding a remote-mounted module and antenna, your SkyView HDX becomes your primary navigator for both VFR and IFR. Q: Do I need the SV-ARINC-429 module to connect this to my SkyView system?

A: We are actively working through the formal FAA certification process.
