Bose ProFlight Series 2 Aviation Headset

New headset ideal for corporate jet and commercial aircraft pilots

OSHKOSH, Wis., July 22, 2019 - Today at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019 Bose, a leader in premium active noise cancelling aviation headsets, announced the new Bose ProFlight Series 2 Aviation Headset - designed for pilots operating in low to moderate noise conditions. Building upon the advanced technology of the original ProFlight Aviation Headset, the Bose ProFlight Series 2 combines customer feedback with Bose’s world-renowned engineering and is the most lightweight, compact and comfortable aviation headset Bose has ever produced. The new ProFlight Series 2 is expected to be available worldwide beginning in September.

The ProFlight Series 2 is the latest addition to Bose’s aviation headset lineup, which also includes the Bose A20, a headset designed for pilots flying louder turboprop and piston engine aircraft. Engineered for the way pilots fly, the new ProFlight Series 2 offers numerous updates and enhancements, including:

A much thinner, lighter and more flexible cable providing increased freedom of movement, improved on-head stability and lower on-head weight

Updates to tap control that improve the accuracy and responsiveness to further optimize communication outside the intercom

Improved low mode noise cancellation designed to optimize communication outside the use of the intercom

A non-Bluetooth® headset variant

An option for custom-molded eartips provided by Bose’s approved partner, Avery Sound

Improvements to the carrying case for easier storage and transportation

The addition of winglets on the mic boom to assist in correct mic alignment and adjustment with improved microphone muff attachment

A five-year warranty extending to owners of the original ProFlight Aviation Headset

Enhanced Bluetooth® audio response

“Bose is excited to introduce improvements to the industry’s smallest and lightest active noise cancelling aviation headset available,” said Glenn Burack, Director, Aviation, Military and SoundComm Headsets, at Bose. “We spoke with numerous corporate and airline pilots about their work environment and received valuable input that helped our engineers deliver a refined headset ideally suited for their unique flight deck and cockpit environments - where noise is pervasive, comfort is required and communication is critical.”

Backed by more than 30 new and existing U.S. utility and design patents, the Bose ProFlight Series 2 Aviation Headset builds on the clean sheet design and engineering from the original ProFlight headset. The ProFlight Series 2 further reinforces Bose’s leadership in headset technology through the unique combination of features and benefits developed by the company’s engineering and technology experts.

Industry Leading Active Noise Reduction

The ProFlight Series 2 continues to leverage important technologies incorporated into the original ProFlight Aviation Headset. The most significant is the digital active noise cancellation in an in-ear design offering three modes of noise cancellation. The improved low mode of noise cancellation is designed to optimize communication outside the use of the intercom. The headset is designed for the moderate noise environments of pressurized cockpits and flight decks across a wide range of frequencies.

With Bose proprietary microchip and microphones both inside and outside each bud, the small electronics system better senses the sound by more effectively measuring, comparing and reacting to produce an opposing cancellation signal. A proprietary eartip design provides additional passive attenuation. The carefully selected materials of the headset eartip block more noise from the ear and further improve comfort.

Unrivaled Combination of Active Noise Cancellation, Comfort and Audio Clarity

Overall, the ProFlight Series 2 is the smallest and lightest active noise cancelling aviation headset on the market. Designed with a thinner, lighter and more flexible cable, the ProFlight Series 2 has a reduced on-head weight of just 4.5 ounces (128 grams) - light enough to remain comfortable, but stable, even on the longest flights.

Bose engineered a unique in-ear design unlike any other headset - a highly stable configuration without the usual intrusive deep-insert eartips.

The ProFlight Series 2 delivers a breakthrough combination of performance and comfort while also withstanding the demands of aviation use. Like the original, the ProFlight Series 2 carries FAA TSO and E/TSO-C139a certification, an achievement only awarded to equipment that passes rigorous testing. Additionally, a new non-Bluetooth variant of the ProFlight Series 2 is now available.

Pricing and Availability

The new ProFlight Series 2 is expected to be available worldwide beginning in September. Customers will be able to purchase the headset and the cables separately. Also, original ProFlight Aviation Headset customers will have the option of upgrading to the thinner, lighter ProFlight Series 2 cable at a discounted price and receive most of the updated features found in the new ProFlight Series 2 Aviation Headset. Bose offers a 30-day flight trial to allow customers to experience the ProFlight Series 2 in their own flying environments.
