Extra NG obtains EAS Type Certificate

Celebratory handover followed by breathtaking air display

Dinslaken, Germany, October 11th, 2019 – At precisely 5:52 pm the noise level in one of the hangar buildings at Walter Extra’s aircraft factory suddenly dropped when, after years of hard work, EASA’s Head of the General Aviation Department, Dominque Roland handed over the type certificate of Europe’s aviation authority for the all-new Extra NG to an overjoyed Walter Extra.

Walter Extra (left) is presented with the EASA type certificate for his latest design, the Extra NG, by EASA’s Head of the General Aviation Department, Dominque Roland.

Thereby, the latest model of one of the world’s most renowned aircraft designers and producers is now fully type-certified and ready to enter serial production.

For insiders of the aerobatic world, this handover was a remarkable one not least because many still vividly remember that Dominque Roland and Walter Extra, in their former lives, used to fight out breathtaking duels for rank and honour in the aerobatic scene at world class level.

The Extra NG was the center of attention during the ceremony at Walter Extra’s aircraft factory in Dinslaken, Germany.

This EASA type certificate for the Extra NG is not an extension of an already existing permit for an earlier Extra aircraft model, but a completely new document for an all-new aircraft design.

The Extra NG will open your eyes to a whole new dimension of aerobatic aircraft featuring an all-carbon rigid base frame, a first in aerobatic aviation history. The Extra NG truly represents a quantum leap forward by offering its owners and pilots not just a stunningly beautiful silhouette, but also an ergonomically advanced cockpit combined with unparalleled and even more enhanced aircraft performance, which – against the background of Extra’s already immensely successful earlier models – really sets standards for the significance of this statement.

Following the official handover of the type certificate, the staggering new flight performance of the Extra NG was aptly demonstrated to the assembled many guests by the French ex-Armée de l’Air pilot and aerobatic world champion, Francois Rallet (left).

Following the official handover of the type certificate, this staggering new flight performance of the Extra NG was aptly demonstrated to the assembled many guests by the French ex-Armée de l’Air pilot and aerobatic world champion, Francois Rallet who, despite suboptimal flying weather conditions, put the NG through its paces in a jaw-dropping flight display.

Apparently, this performance has already begun to convince the clientele of Walter Extra since fifteen of the +/- 10 G certified new aircraft have already been entered into the order books of the most successful aircraft manufacturer in German post-war history at a price of 394 TEUR a piece. This aircraft is more than worth it.
