Growing Electrifly-In Switzerland
Eighth event of its kind
This year's Electrifly-In Switzerland, which was held this weekend at the Swiss Federal Air Force base at Bern Airport, was a success. The event focussed entirely on sustainable aviation and was attended by interested parties from near and far.
The event was opened with a networking event on friday evening with prominent guests: Christoph Neuhaus/Vice President of the Government of the Canton of Bern, Roger Baillod/ President of the Board of Directors of BKW, Urs Ryf/CEO Bern Airport and Dominique Gisin, pilot and Olympic downhill champion, emphasised the importance of sustainable aviation solutions in the exciting opening sequence, setting the tone for an event that highlighted many facets of the future of the industry.

Innovative solutions and exciting discussions
The Fly-In was accompanied by a symposium that brought together high-calibre speakers from the aviation industry and provided the latest insights into the future of flying: Morell Westermann/Future Researcher, Engineer & Pilot on the âeForceâ project, the Cellsius association (students at ETH Zurich), which supports focus projects, Radovan Gallo/Flux Aviation on âModule electric powertrains for general aviationâ, Dr. Priscilla Caliandro/Berner Fachhochschule Biel âEU-Project GENESISâ, Sascha Hardegger/CEO Dufour Aerospace on âThe development of tilt-wing hybrid- electric aircraft in Switzerlandâ, Peter Koch/Pilot & Operations Sustainability & Accountable Standards at Swiss International Air Lines on âSustainability@SWISS: Measures and Challengesâ, AeroDelft with the âPhoenixâ project and Rolf Stuber/smartflyer AG.

The exhibition in the hangar of the Swiss federal airforce base offered an impressive variety of sustainable aviation projects (see: Exhibitors 2024). National and international development teams presented their innovative concepts here, which will certainly shape and permanently change aviation in the upcoming years. Exclusive insights into the work of teams such as smartflyer, Cellsius, Dufour Aerospace and Swiss International Air Lines with their partners, Lufthansa Aviation Training Switzerland, Green GT and Synhelion, various sustainability projects such as Sustainable Aviation Fuel, AeroSHARK and OPS efficiency were impressive.
Informative eTalk and ceremonial honour
The eTalk, moderated as usual by Alex Miescher, brought together experts from various areas of aviation. They discussed the question of whether the goal of ânet zero CO2 in aviation by 2050â is achievable. The stimulating discussions and points of view provided valuable information and views on the challenges that still lie ahead for sustainable aviation until then.
The colourful audience was offered e-taster flights, which were very popular due to the excellent flying weather conditions especially on Saturday. The highlight of the Electrifly-In Switzerland was the award ceremony for the eTrophy on Sunday afternoon. Pilots who flew the longest distance to Bern purely electrically, hybrid or as a âgliderâ were honoured. Sponsored by the company Waterjet, the participants received trophies and prize money totalling CHF 15,000 for their achievements.
Electrifly-In Switzerland will continue to be a firm fixture in the aviation calendar, with the next edition taking place at Bern Airport on 13 & 14 September 2025.
